ARCOS-1 (Puerto Barrios) — in service since

2001

2001The Rio Times

According to TeleGeography's Submarine Cable Map (last updated 4 September 2026), the Puerto Barrios (Atlantic) landing point lists AMX-1, ARCOS and SAm-1 (South America-1), plus TAM-1 and TIKAL-AMX3, both with the year 2026 next to the name and no indication of what it stands for; the Puerto San Jose (Pacific) landing point lists SAm-1 and the South Pacific Cable System (SPCS)/Mistral. Submarine Networks says SAm-1, operated by Telxius, was ready for service on 26 March 2001 and has landing stations at Puerto San Jose and Puerto Barrios. According to The Rio Times, ARCOS-1 has been in service since 2001 and links Puerto Barrios with the United States. For America Movil's AMX-1, Wikipedia records RFS 2014 without citing a source, and Submarine Networks says its construction was completed in December 2013 and that Telecomunicaciones de Guatemala, S.A. owns and operates its Puerto Barrios landing station. The cable America Movil calls AMX3 and Telxius calls Tikal was announced in January 2023 to link Puerto Barrios with Boca Raton, with a possible additional landing in Cancun, an estimated initial capacity of 190 Tbps and operation in 2025. According to The Rio Times (8 September 2026), Tikal will run from Puerto Barrios to Boca Raton, Florida, via Cancun, where Telxius has already finished a landing station and data centre; Telxius puts the main trunk's initial capacity at about 380 Tbps, up from the initial 190 Tbps estimate, and the cable, for which Telxius targeted mid-2026 when the Cancun extension was first announced, in October 2023, is expected in service in the first half of 2027.
