USDA's Coffee Annual 2026 (Guatemala City post, April 16, 2026) forecasts for marketing year 2026/27 a harvested area of 345,000 hectares (+2 %), 1.662 billion bearing trees (1.628 billion in 2025/26) and output of 3.13 million 60-kg bags green bean equivalent (+3.3 % on the 3.025 million estimated for 2025/26; 2024/25 closed at 3.14 million). Arabica grown under shade is 98 % of output and about a third of Arabica plantations have been renovated with rust-tolerant hybrids. It is a smallholder sector: 97 % of producers grow roughly 266 60-kg bags of parchment a year at 17.29 bags per hectare; 2.9 % are medium growers (up to 172.90 bags, 18.62 per hectare) and 0.1 % large (over 173 bags, over 21.28 per hectare). The 2024/25 harvest saw up to 20 % rust incidence in January–March, and in September 2025 ANACAFE identified the borer Xylosandrus compactus in Zacapa, Retalhuleu, Quetzaltenango and San Marcos at 600–900 metres.
