Awarded 'on 21 February of this year', per article of Aug 26, 2024Prensa LibreAccording to the Empresa Portuaria Quetzal (EPQ), cited by TV Azteca Guate on 8 November 2024, two of the four cranes contracted to Yilport Guatemala were working. Earlier, La Hora (3 September 2024) reported, citing port information, a contract for the service of four cranes of which the company had only one available, and Prensa Libre (26 August 2024) reported that of four cranes only one worked, or 'sometimes two'. According to Prensa Libre, on 30 November 2023 EPQ ceded and transferred 'all rights, benefits and obligations' to Yilport Quetzal, S. A., which provides the crane services, and 'on 21 February of this year' awarded it a Q59.4 million contract for the service of the five cranes; EPQ's general manager, Ricardo Monterroso, acknowledged to the paper that the contract favours Yilport. According to its website, YILPORT's presence in Puerto Quetzal began with Operadora Logistica Guatemala (OLG), which won the contract to provide handling services at EPQ's quays with 4 Mobile Harbor Cranes for container, break bulk and bulk cargo; the same page says YILPORT Quetzal provides service with 5 mobile harbour cranes and took over operations with the modernisation of the terminal.
