The Comisión Portuaria Nacional's 2023 port statistics report (table C-8) sets the TEU-by-port series no other source publishes: the national port system went from 1,423,340 TEU in 2016 to 1,723,565 in 2023, peaking at 1,739,170 in 2021. Puerto Quetzal (Empresa Portuaria Quetzal and its terminals) leads with 658,320 TEU in 2023, followed by Puerto Barrios with 575,461 and Santo Tomás de Castilla with 489,784, down 11 % on 2022 with the nickel slump. In units the system handled 919,162 containers in 2023 (1.88 TEU per container). The report's 2022 column does not reconcile between ports and total (1,658,964 summed against 1,660,986 printed). The CPN's 2025 edition, reprints 1,723,565 TEU for 2023 and extends the series to 1,912,340 in 2024 and 2,119,847 in 2025, but revises 2021 to 1,715,457 and 2022 to 1,588,781, so the 1,739,170 peak in 2021 belongs to the 2023 edition. The World Bank's national series agrees with the CPN within ±3 %.
