Guatemala is the world's largest cardamom exporter, with more than 50% of the market (Ministry of Agriculture, MAGA). In 2024 it exported some 28,321 tonnes for US$496.6 million, and through 2025 export prices moved between US$5.06 and 6.17/kg in a price recovery; both Infobae figures were verified in the audit of 19 August 2026. The main destinations are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Prensa Latina reported a 65% fall in the 2024-2025 harvest after consecutive droughts, and Prensa Libre a temporary suspension of exports because of logistics closures in the Middle East. The 2025 export figures (US$434.8 M, −12.2%) and the planted area (~150,000 ha, 70% in Alta Verapaz) that circulated in the first pass were withdrawn because the article cited does not contain them; they remain to be obtained from Banguat and MAGA.

The research is written in English; quoted figures, source names and the titles of legal instruments stay in the language their source published them in.

2025 export value and planted area withdrawn in the audit — no source; reconciling the −65% harvest fall with the 2025 export value is still pending

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
