IFC Performance Standard 7 (Indigenous Peoples, 2012) requires free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) in defined circumstances, impacts on lands and resources under traditional use, relocation, critical cultural heritage, a stricter test than Guatemalan case law. The Equator Principles (126 signatory financial institutions) apply the IFC standards to project finance, with specific 2020 guidance for projects affecting indigenous peoples. No Guatemalan bank signatory could be confirmed; in practice the standard enters Guatemala through international lenders (IFC, IDB Invest, foreign EPFI banks). The Ixquisis case shows the standard biting: MICI found that the IDB itself had breached its own safeguards and IDB Invest exited the investment.
