How does industry in Guatemala source its water and how many wells are there in the capital's valley?

In practice most industry self-supplies from its own mechanical well and tops up with municipal service (EMPAGUA in the capital), private suppliers (Agua Mariscal) or bulk water. More than 2,000 wells are estimated in the Guatemala valley, of which only about 300 are exploited under controlled conditions by companies or public bodies. There is no national well registry and no metering of extraction, a weakness acknowledged by EMPAGUA/MGCS's own Water Security Strategy (2024).
