World ranking
1st exporter, >50% of the market
2024-2026MAGAGuatemala is the world's largest cardamom exporter, with more than 50% of the market (Ministry of Agriculture, MAGA). In 2024 it exported some 28,321 tonnes for US$496.6 million, and through 2025 export prices moved between US$5.06 and 6.17/kg in a price recovery. The main destinations are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Prensa Latina reported a 65% fall in the 2024-2025 harvest after consecutive droughts, and Prensa Libre a temporary suspension of exports because of logistics closures in the Middle East. The 2025 export figures (US$434.8 M, −12.2%) and the planted area (~150,000 ha, 70% in Alta Verapaz) that circulated in the first pass were withdrawn because the article cited does not contain them; they remain to be obtained from Banguat and MAGA.
