PEG-5, described by the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) as the largest and most sustainable tender in its history, called for up to 1,400 MW of firm capacity with supply from 2030 and contracts of up to 15 years. Technical bids were received on 12 February 2026: 51 bidders and around 4,700 MW offered, of which more than 2,000 MW solar and about 700 MW gas (República). In April 2026, 57 projects totalling 1,258 MW were awarded, about 90% of the distributors' requirement, endorsed by the electricity regulator (CNEE) (Prensa Libre); the audit of 19 August 2026 verified these figures with no changes.
