In Guatemala it runs the Walmart format (hypermarket; seven Paiz stores converted in May 2011), Supertiendas Paiz (founded in 1959, with the Paiz brand dating from 1928), Despensa Familiar (discount) and Maxi Despensa. Regional scale was 731 stores at the end of 2016 according to Wikipedia and ‘more than 900 stores’ across five countries according to the corporate site, with no country breakdown. No investment figure specific to Guatemala was found: the news section of the corporate site returned no articles.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
