APM Terminals' arrival at Puerto Quetzal
- The record of foreign investment: real cases
- Foreign investment, in figures
- not audited
In March 2016 APM Terminals completed the purchase of the port and rail operations of Spain's Grup Marítim TCB for around US$1,000 million: 8 terminals with some 2 million weighted TEU, a package that included the Guatemalan terminal. The source (Wikipedia) does not break out how much of that value corresponds to Quetzal. The terminal opened on 24 November 2017. The dossier's lesson is twofold: the country's largest private port investment was born of a tainted concession that ended up in court, and even so the asset came to operate under a global operator, which illustrates both the governance risk and the resilience of the asset.
The research is written in English; quoted figures, source names and the titles of legal instruments stay in the language their source published them in.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
