The largest documented purchase is Millicom's: on 12 November 2021 it acquired the remaining 45% of Tigo Guatemala (Comcel) from its local partner Miffin Associates for US$2,200 million in cash, taking its holding to 100%. LexLatin records that same date as the closing of the deal; Millicom's official closing statement has yet to be located. Because it was the purchase of a stake from a local partner by a foreign parent, its treatment in the 2021 balance of payments (FDI or other investment) must be confirmed with Banguat. Amount, seller and date were verified against LexLatin in the audit of 19 August 2026.

The research is written in English; quoted figures, source names and the titles of legal instruments stay in the language their source published them in.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
