The Escobal mine: location, history and output

- Foreign investment, in figures
- not audited
Escobal is a silver mine in San Rafael Las Flores, Santa Rosa. Goldcorp explored it from 2007, sold it to Tahoe Resources in 2011, and the state granted a 25-year exploitation license in April 2013. Between 2014 and 2017 it produced around 20 million ounces of silver a year with a capacity of 4,500 tonnes a day, according to Pan American Silver; that figure is a corporate claim and must be checked against Tahoe's annual reports.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
