According to VISAR–MAGA (note of 18 August 2026), officials of the U.S. State Department and NOAA inspected on 13 August 2026 twenty turtle excluder devices (TEDs, DET in Spanish) installed on shrimp vessels of the Pacific coast and Guatemala passed the evaluation, keeping the certification that allows Guatemalan shrimp to keep entering the U.S. market. Working TEDs and a spare set on board are a technical and legal requirement for commercial coastal shrimp fishing. Staff of DIPESCA's Marine Fisheries Department accompanied the inspection with the Pacific Naval Command. The certification covers coastal shrimp trawling; farmed shrimp is governed by aquatic animal health (PRONASA) and VISAR authorisations.
