Land with irrigation potential totals 3.9 million ha (50% of it high and medium potential), but only ~460,000 ha (≈12% of the potential) are actually irrigated (National Irrigation Policy 2024-2033). The target is 45,000 new hectares in the extended dry corridor, the south coast and the north; MAGA estimated ~Q3,000 million and 96 potential sites without pre-investment studies. Reported progress: 700 ha handed over in Zacapa on 25 September 2024. The National Irrigation Plan was launched in 2018 to counter the prolonged mid-summer dry spell.

The research is written in English; quoted figures, source names and the titles of legal instruments stay in the language their source published them in.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
