Negotiations began on 22 October 2007 (7 rounds). Signature took place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 2012: MINECO's profile cites '29 June 2012' in one paragraph and '29 July 2012' in another; Spain's Ministry of the Economy records June 2012, which supports 29 June, but the date must be settled against EUR-Lex. The European Parliament approved it on 11 December 2012. The trade pillar has applied provisionally since 1 August 2013 for Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, since 1 October 2013 for Costa Rica and El Salvador, and since 1 December 2013 for Guatemala (Decree 2-2013 of Congress). The three pillars — trade, political and cooperation — have been in full force since 1 May 2024, after ratification by all EU member states. The application date (1 Dec 2013) and the full entry into force (1 May 2024) were confirmed in audit against comercio.gob.es.

The research is written in English; quoted figures, source names and the titles of legal instruments stay in the language their source published them in.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
