EMPORNAC plans specialized cruise, container and bulk terminals, a possible new pier 18 m further out to sea and a public-private cruise terminal (Infobae, July 2026). In 2021 the Giammattei government announced an 'adjoining port' at Santo Tomás whose current status has not been verified. As a competitiveness warning, AGEXPORT reports that some shipping lines have applied cost increases (congestion surcharges) at Santo Tomás; the dossier does not record the amounts.
