The main operation at Puerto Barrios is run by COBIGUA (Compañía Bananera Guatemalteca Independiente, linked to Chiquita), specialized in agricultural exports: bananas, melon and pineapple. According to a commercial profile (UNIS Co., not verified against the CPN): 1 container terminal, 4 berths, maximum draft 9.5 m, annual capacity of ~525,000 TEU with an expansion plan to 630,000 TEU, mobile cranes and 1,100 reefer plugs. Chiquita inaugurated a US$30 million expansion at the Puerto Barrios Rail Terminal (year not confirmed) and COBIGUA announced an investment of Q300 million (a historic Prensa Libre item, year not confirmed). The terminal's first concession, a usufruct with Ferrovías, reached expiry according to Prensa Libre; the current contractual position must be verified. The 20% share of vessels berthed in 2024 does not appear in the source to which it was attributed.

This layer is research: read from public sources by the archive's own team, every claim cited with the date it was consulted, and audited where it is marked so. It has not entered the verified store — no figure here was fetched back from its source or stamped with a retrieval time — so it wears no red provenance numeral and never mixes with the verified figures.
